Aerostructures Assemblies India Pvt. Ltd. (AAI), a joint Venture betweenAequs Aerospace and Saab AB (publ), has been awarded a contract fromSaab Aerostructures to manufacture the structural assembly for the OverWing Doors (OWD) on the Airbus A321neo program. The Over Wing Doorsare a critical part of the aircraft used for emergency exits. There are 4 OverWing Door on the A321Neo aircraft. The structural assembly is comprised ofmachined aluminum parts which will be assembled by the AAI team inBelagavi, Karnataka, India and delivered to the Saab AerostructuresAssembly Line in Linköping, Sweden.
AAI has evolved into a strong supply chain player for producingaerostructures assemblies in India. AAI has been delivering door plugs forAirbus’ A321neo Cabin Flex configuration since 2017 and produced wingpanels and D-nose assemblies for the A380 program since 2014. Besidesend products, its capabilities also include development of assembly tools,jigs, and fixtures.
With this award, Saab and AAI further cement its strong partnership.Production deliveries will begin at the end of 2019 and ramp up insubsequent years.
The AAI facility is located within the Aequs SEZ, the country’s first NotifiedPrecision Engineering Special Economic Zone (SEZ), at Belagavi, Karnataka.Aequs has been recognized by Airbus as a top Detailed Parts Partner (D2P)since 2016. The company has vertically integrated multiple stages of thesupply chain – from forging and machining, to assembly and surfacetreatment – at its SEZ spanning 250+ acres.
